CHIX Hot Chicken, Nashville Fried Chicken with the heat or a KICK!

Updated: Oct 6

SINGAPORE: I learnt about Nashville Hot Chicken through Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and when I got the chance to go to Nashville, a hot chicken restaurant was the first place I went. Hence, when CHIX Hot Chicken opened its doors on our shore, I couldn’t wait to try it. CHIX Hot Chicken is Singapore's first Nashville hot Chicken joint using the world's hottest peppers in their secret spicy rub. This was in 2018.

Fast track to 2021, they have just opened a second outlet. As there are not many restaurants specialising in American Fried Chicken, I am glad they are doing well. Kudos to them for going a GREAT JOB.

This time, I went with a plan. I wanted to find out what is my heat tolerance. It is a challenge I have wanted to do for a while. At CHIX Hot Chicken, you can choose the heat in 5 levels, namely Mild, Medium, Hot, Insane OR Atomic. Pick a meal, quad chicken, tenders or sandwich and pick a level of heat—all at your own risk.

Aman and I were the first in the restaurant that day. We walked in confidently as we are good at handling spice. Therefore, we ordered 2 Soul Slider with extra cheese at spice level "Hot" without hesitation.

Taking the first bite, I didn't find it spicy at all. We finished up the Chicken slider with no problem. Since we were not full, we decided to up the ante and order the Chicken Tender at spice level "Insane". Boy, it was out of our league! We totally couldn’t handle the heat. Within the first few bites, we were tearing in pain. My mouth and lips were numb, that no amount of milkshake was going to save the day. We were defeated.

Six weeks later, we were back. This time, we wanted to try other items on the menu and reconfirm the maximum spice level we can take.

We got the Chicken & Waffles, Dirty Taters - Fried Chicken Bits over potato tots, Buffalo-Chicken tender in Hotdog roll and Soul slider. All items at level ”Hot”. I was transcending between happiness and mildly pain. At least I survived...LOL

These are genuinely excellent amazing hot chicken. Hot might be the highest level of heat I can take, but the medium level would be more enjoyable. After all, we are there for the delicious fried chicken and not for the pain. This place brought back memories of the fun time I had in Nashville, Tennessee, back in 2016.

Scenes around the restaurant in a relaxing afternoon.

We are having a great hot lunch with friends!
